Turkey Tail Quills make a good wingcase. The mottled brown coloration and texture of the quill make it a favorite for hare's-ears, stonefly, tellico and many other nymphs. Be sure to coat it with FlexCement or simular laquer for durability and ease of handling when tying. This technique can be used for other quill feathers if you need a different color of wing case.

Pull off small ragged fibers from base of feather stem.

Like so.

Snip a section of quill fibers wide enough to cover the back of fly. How much is personal preference.

Peel off slowly so that fibers in section stay together.
